What are Pond Tasks?
Pond Tasks is a task marketplace built for early-stage startups. Like Kaggle for startups, you post a challenge and a global crowd competes to solve it. Or like a startup task hackathon, you define the task, set the prize, and people race to deliver the best work. Pond's tens of thousands of active users compete to complete it — submitting real work, real feedback, and real output. You review every submission and only pay for what meets your bar. No hiring, no managing, no wasted spend. Just a clear task in, and real growth deliverables out.
How to create a task?
Getting your task live takes less than 15 minutes. Here's how:
- Create and sign in an account atjoinpond.ai. Use the email you check most.
- Navigate to https://joinpond.ai/tasks and press "Create a Task" in the top right corner.
- Choose your task type. Select "Usage & Feedback" for product testing, user QA and reviews, or "Content" for UGC and social tasks.
- Design your task task. Before you fill in anything, get clear on three things: what outcome you actually need, what you want contributors to deliver as proof, and what a great submission looks like versus a poor one. The more specific your task, the better your results. Ask yourself — if I handed this brief to a stranger, could they complete it without asking me a single question? If not, tighten it.
- Input your startup details — logo, business name, website URL, and a one-sentence summary.
- Write your task details. Walk contributors through the task step by step with clear context and instructions. Include a demo video of yourself going through the full task — partners who do this consistently see higher participation and better quality output.
- Set your eligibility criteria. Filter by the type of contributor you want, or leave it blank for maximum participation.
- Choose your reward package. Pick an existing package or go custom. The recommended base is $10 per user, with $20 being the standard for best results.
- Set your expiration date and time.
- Deposit and pay. The Pond team reviews your task before it goes live to make sure the scope is clear and unambiguous.
Why should I use Pond Tasks?
Pond Tasks are designed for you to help you solve any of your startup operational challenges. The hardest part of building an early-stage startup isn't the product anymore because of AI — now it's everything that comes after. Getting real users through the door. Understanding how they actually interact with what you built. Generating content that proves your product works. Finding the right leads in customized ways and test out and validate your assumed ICP before burning your runway on ads and spray and pray. These are the tasks that pull founders away from building, and they're exactly what Pond Tasks was designed to solve.
Instead of doing it all yourself or hiring a team you can't yet afford or don't know about, you post a task, set a reward, and Pond's tens of thousands of active users compete to deliver. Real people. Real output. Real results — on your timeline, at your budget, with zero hiring overhead.
Every task launched on Pond has hit 3x the expected participation. Startups have walked away with authentic usage videos, qualified sales leads, structured product feedback, and community momentum that no marketing campaign could manufacture. And because every contributor has actually engaged with your product, they don't just deliver a task — they become familiar with what you're building before you ever ask them to back you.
If you need to move fast, stretch every dollar, and build real traction without losing months to it — Pond Tasks is where you start.
How does tasks work?
Post a task. Set a reward. Pond's tens of thousands of active users see it, compete to deliver the best work, and submit directly on the platform. You review every submission at your own pace — approving what meets your bar, passing on what doesn't. Nothing gets paid out until you say so. You walk away with real output. They walk away with a reward. Everyone wins.
Who completes the work?
Pond's active user base. All kinds of people on Pond that can satisfy your diversified needs for different tasks — people already on the platform to discover emerging startups, back early products, and earn by contributing meaningfully. These aren't gig workers browsing job boards. They're startup-native, genuinely curious about what you're building, and motivated to engage deeply because the opportunity to be early on something great is part of why they're here. When they work on your task, they're not just completing a task — they're becoming familiar with your product in a way that turns contributors into advocates. Pond will keep onboarding and funnelling different types of users. You can set up eligibility criteria to filter them out and define who are eligible to complete your tasks.
Case Studies
The honest answer: almost anything on your to-do list that shouldn't be there. The tasks founders get the most ROI from are user signups with structured first-impression feedback, 60-second authentic product usage videos, sales lead identification in a specific target market, bug and edge case discovery before a major push, and social content or demos your team doesn't have bandwidth to produce. If a task drives real traction and costs you time you should be spending on the product — it belongs on Pond Tasks.
Here's what that looks like in practice. Every task launched on Pond has hit at least 3x the expected number of participants:
- A prompt generator that turns rough ideas into a perfect, model-optimized prompt in seconds launched a user QA task with Pond, asking the community to use the product and identify bugs. Bugs were fixed and the task drove 3x user growth in days and converted multiple paid users
- An AI detection startup used a task to crowdsource identification of professional reports with high AI-generated content — turning community effort directly into a qualified sales lead pipeline
- A mobile app startup acquired real users, collected structured product reviews, and built an authentic library of 60-second usage videos that no marketing team could replicate
- A healthcare app gathered video testimonials and written reviews from real users navigating sensitive healthcare decisions — generating the kind of social proof that builds trust where it matters most
- Ethereum Foundation ran multiple technical tasks and received machine learning models back from the community to improve grant distribution efficiencies for its open source communities on GitHub
Tasks that ask contributors to engage with your product directly, record usage videos, submit feedback through Pond, or post about product usage or specific research content on social media.
What we don't recommend: Tasks that incentivize reviews or upvotes on third-party platforms like Google or Product Hunt. These platforms explicitly prohibit incentivized reviews, and violations can result in content removal, account penalties, or listing takedowns — regardless of whether the reviews are honest.
Founders are solely responsible for ensuring their task tasks comply with applicable laws, platform terms, and relevant guidelines. Any task posted on Pond is at the founder's own risk. Pond will assist you review your task. We recommend consulting your legal counsel and talk to the Pond team before posting when you have doubts.
Why would participants do it well?
Because they're competing. Every contributor knows others are submitting for the same reward, which creates a dynamic that consistently drives quality up without you needing to manage anyone. You're not paying for effort or hours — you're paying for results, and contributors know that. The format also attracts people who are genuinely curious about your product, which means the work comes with a level of care and authenticity that transactional freelance work rarely delivers.
How is this better than running ads or hiring an agency?
Ads give you impressions from people who immediately scroll past. Agencies give you one team's interpretation of your product. Pond Tasks gives you hundreds of real people simultaneously engaging with your product in your own customized way — signing up, using it, forming genuine opinions, and creating output from their actual experience. You get users, feedback, content, and leads in a single motion. And unlike ad spend that evaporates the moment you stop paying, the people who completed your task have actually used your product. That relationship doesn't disappear when the campaign ends.
What results should I expect?
Every task launched on Pond has hit at least 3x the expected number of participants with quality submissions. Some are even more! Every partner has walked away satisfied. One of the largest AI companies in New York used a task to crowdsource professional reports with AI-generated content, turning community effort directly into qualified sales leads. Another startup acquired real users, collected structured product reviews in a matter of days that traditionally will take months of effort and socializing with strangers online, and built an authentic library of 60-second usage videos that no marketing team could replicate. A healthcare application gathered video testimonials from real patients who had completed prenatal testing — the kind of social proof that builds trust in a high-stakes healthcare decision. Ethereum Foundation ran a technical task and received machine learning models back from the community for them to distribute grants to their open source communities more efficiently. What you get depends entirely on what you ask for — so think big about what would actually move your startup forward right now.
What if submissions are low quality?
You're fully in control. Nothing gets paid out until you review and approve it. You define the task, you set the quality bar, and you decide what meets it before any reward is released. The competitive structure of tasks also does a lot of the work for you — contributors know they're up against others, so they self-select toward their best output. In practice, the quality problem most founders expect never materializes. The more specific your brief, the better the submissions.
What do I need before posting?
A working product and one clear task you'd genuinely love to hand off today. That's it. You don't need an existing user base, a marketing team, a polished brand, or a big budget. Pond Tasks is designed precisely for the stage where you have none of those things yet — and need to move anyway. If you're pre-launch and want to stress-test your product before a big push, that's a task. If you're post-launch and need real users fast, that's a task too.
How fast can I go live?
Very fast! You can define your challenges here and we will brainstorm questions/tasks in your task to solve your challenges. Don't worry! Your task will be reviewed by the Pond team before it goes to the public and we can always come back and refine it. The Pond team works with you directly to scope your task and get it structured for maximum participation. You can go from first conversation here to live task within hours. The clearer your task going in, the faster you launch — and the faster you start seeing submissions and results come in.
What does it cost?
It will be decided by you. The pricing of a task is decided by how many submissions you want to reward eventually and how much is each submission worth. If a task is very complex, for example, you are delegating the community to spend a lot of time
What's the first step?
Think about the single task sitting on your plate right now that is important, takes real time, and someone else could do it if they were motivated enough. That's your first task. It might be getting 50 people to sign up and record their first five minutes using your product. It might be finding 20 companies in your target market whose content is a perfect fit for your sales pitch. It might be building a library of short videos that show your product in action. Whatever it is — that's where you start. Head to https://joinpond.ai/tasks and let's build it together.
